Basically an airfare is something people pay in order to travel on an airplane. The price is complicated by airfare types such as fares, rules, restrictions and taxes. Published Fares: - Anyone can purchase the published fare. These are the tickets that immediately available for purchase. The rules for these fares are largely the same for every airline. These airfare types require you to purchase them fourteen days in advance and are non-refundable.

Unpublished Fares: -
These are the seats that you can get at high discounts since they are entirely different from the published fares. It is these tickets that are usually bought from consolidators. The rules for these tickets will vary greatly depending on who you are purchasing them from. Certain sellers will allow free changes while others will not let you make any changes. You cannot get unpublished fares through an airline. Understanding The Letters Of Airfare Types: - When it comes to airfare types there are many different letters that can become confusing when you are trying to purchase tickets. The different airfare types are assigned various letters to describe the service class and the type of airfare you are purchasing. For First Class tickets the letters commonly used are F and P. For Business or Executive Class the letter J and C are commonly used. Y is usually used to describe economy class tickets. The various subclasses including reduced, restricted and discounted fares are indicated by the letters B, H, L, M and V depending on the company or person you are ordering the tickets through. Tickets from consolidators will typically come with the letters X, U or R. |
