Airline Codes
There are airline codes, airline city codes and airline IATA codes. Also, you will find airline promotional codes and airline flight codes. What the heck do all those airline codes mean anyway? 1. Airline IATA codes – The IATA stands for International Air Transport Association and the airline codes associated with this are often part of the flight number of an airline. For instance, if you flew on United Airlines, your flight number would be preceded by the letters UA. The Southwest Airline IATA airline code is WN. As you can see, not all of the airline codes resemble the name. 2. Airline city codes – These airline codes often refer to the name of the airport in your destination city. These codes help air traffic controllers and other personnel keep track of the many airports in the world. For instance, you will have several airline names and codes for London in Great Britain. First of all, the airline code for the country is GB for Great Britain. For Heathrow and Gatwick Airports in London, their airline codes for the airports are LHR and LGW respectively. 3. Airline tycoon codes – This isn’t really anything having to do with flight travel at all, unless you are playing a video game! If you hear this airline codes term bandied about, you are probably talking to a gamer.

4. Airline flight codes – This relates to the airline IATA codes. Remember, each carrier has a two-letter code. When it comes to individual flights, each flight will be preceded by these two letters and then a number will follow it. This helps people distinguish one flight from another.
5. Official airline guide to air fare codes – There are a number of websites on the internet which goes in depth into the different airline codes there are. If the thought of all those numbers and letters gets you confused, all you have to do is run an internet search and find your answers easily. 6. Airline discount codes – Sometimes known as airline ticket codes or airline promotion codes, these are often found in odd places like an internet banner ad or in the travel section of the newspaper. Basically, when you book travel to a certain destination, you give the travel agent or carrier customer service representative this airline coupon code and you can get a discount price on your travel expenses. |
