Based out of Luton, England, Monarch Airlines is a charter and scheduled airline carrier. It flights operations to Europe, United States, the Caribbean, India and Africa as one of the largest charter airline carriers in the United Kingdom with flights mainly going to leisure destinations. Flights are also made to the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands through their brand known as Monarch Scheduled. Monarch Airlines has four main bases of operation at Birmingham International Airport, Luton Airport in London, Gatwick Airport in London and Manchester Airport. A History Of Monarch Airlines: - Monarch Airlines was originally started in 1946 in Denver, Colorado by Ray Wilson. In 1950 the company merged with Arizona Airways and Challenger Airlines to become the Frontier Airlines. On June 1, 1967 the British airline was established by the Mantegazza and Albek families which still own the company to this day. Monarch Airlines began operations in April 1968 and started using jet aircraft in 1971. Monarch Airlines became an all jet aircraft fleet in 1976.

In the eighties Monarch Airlines started to make changes. They first opened offices at major British airports including Gatwick, Glasgow and Manchester. Then they company applied for a scheduled airline license in 1985.
In 1999 Monarch Airlines took delivery of Airbus A330 aircraft to start long distance flight operations. In 2000 Monarch Airlines started into the technology age with the launch of their first website. Today, Monarch Airlines is the second largest airline for carrying passengers that takes off from Manchester Airport. Monarch Airline Services: - Monarch Airlines features many international destinations including flights to Alicante, Almeria, Barcelona, Faro, Gibraltar, Granada, Lanzarote, Lisbon, Las Palmas, Malaga, Menorca, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca and Tenerife. In the summer of 2007 Monarch Airlines plans to add flights to Jerez, Larnaca and Ibiza. Monarch Airlines is also the largest provider of lease aircraft for tour operations. Every winter Monarch Airlines operates a Winter Ski Charter service that takes passengers to Calgary, Canada. Two times a week these charter service flights are made from both the Manchester and Gatwick airports. These charter flights are made between December and April. In 2007 the company also plans to increase flights to Luton, Faro, Malaga and Palma. |
